Bond Street Station Upgrade Project (BSSU), London, UK

Friday, April 25, 2014

Project Overview

Works are now underway at this Central London tube station, with the completion of both SCL shafts and over 60m of sprayed concrete tunnels to date. In the Southern Tunnels section, the teams have already successfully passed beneath one of the main existing station escalator barrels and over the Southbound Jubilee Line running tunnel, without any disruption to their operation throughout the works. Works will now continue with the Northern tunnels including 10.5m diameter Connection Chamber 1, and construction of inclined barrels, which will eventually house Escalators 9 and 10.

Sprayed concrete works commenced in July 2013, with the main tunnelling works predicted to be completed in late 2015. The completed station is due for opening alongside the Bond Street Crossrail Station in 2017, and is expected to welcome around 220,000 passengers every day.

DSP Engineering Support Services

Dr Sauer & Partners are currently working in a Design Representation on Site role, which involves site support and design verification during construction. The ‘One Team’ atmosphere on site promotes good interaction between the design team (Halcrow Atkins Joint Venture – HAT), the contractor (Costain Laing O’Rourke Joint Venture - CoLOR) and the client (London Underground), resulting in effective engineering solutions to challenges presented on site. Dr Sauer & Partners are sub-contracted by HAT within the design team to provide expert SCL guidance and ensure the design is correctly implemented on site. As a result, the project so far has been completed efficiently and with minimal disruption to station users.
