There are however, a huge number of tunnels and underground structure that were built without adequate water control systems. Today, water leakage into tunnels causes serious damage to the structural integrity of the facility, its mechanical and electrical installations and questions the safety of its future operation.
Past repair practices of trying to prevent leakage by grout injection of the concrete lining and the adjacent ground with cement or resin grouts have shown only limited success. A new system has therefore been developed by the company to control water ingress by drawing it down into effective drainage systems which can if necessary be insulated against the damaging effects of freezing temperatures.
