DART Tunnel Inspection Manual, June 1999

Herndon, VA, 1999/06/01, USA
June 28, 2013

Produced for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

This Tunnel Inspection Manual specifies procedures and tools for the inspection of the DART Light Rail System tunnel structures. Inspections shall only be carried out by personnel meeting the specified requirements. Each inspection has to be coordinated with DART and accompanied by a DART representative. Generally, full inspections shall be performed every two years, unless a more frequent inspection cycle is required.

Each structure will receive a Defect Class rating as specified herein. Once the initial inspection is completed and documented a track record for each structure can be established and deteriorating effects monitored.

A Structure Code and Tunnel Inventory have been developed to assist during the inspection. All structures have to be examined and a summary has to be provided in the Inspection Report after each inspection. Standard inspection forms have been developed for tunnel and other structures. These forms shall be utilized during inspections and be part of the Inspection Report.

These inspection procedures and subsequent maintenance will effectively and efficiently reduce the risk of tunnel structure deterioration and improve the life time of the DART Light Rail tunnel structures.
