RETC Seattle 2005

The 2005 Rapid Excavation and Tunneling Conference was held in Seattle, WAfrom June 27 - 29, 2005.  This year’s conference offered a diverse array of interesting papers that spanned all aspects of underground construction and tunneling, as well as a forecast for future projects.  One of the highlights of the event was a site tour atSound Transit's Beacon Hill Station project site.  The underground station will be a crucial part of the Seattle Link Light Rail expansion and was designed by the Dr. G. Sauer Corporation (DSC) as a subcosultant to the Hatch Mott MacDonald / Jacobs Joint Venture.

The DSC also was fortunate to have a few key staff members selected to present their papers at the prestigious bi-annual RETC.

Pamela Moran, PE (Vice President of Engineering) and Thomas Schwind (Senior Structural Engineer) presented a paper titled: Using Steel Fibers to Reinforce Final Shotcrete Linings.

Jürgen Laubbichler, DSC's (Senior Tunnel Engineer) also presented a paper titled: Design and Risk Management Strategy for the Sound Transit Beacon Hill Station and Tunnels.
