Crossrail Farringdon Station Design

Farringdon station is situated at the heart of London's rail network and will be one of its major rail interchange stations, which will link Crossrail, Thameslink services and London Underground trains. The station layout includes two ticket halls, two escalator inclines, two platform tunnels, connecting cross passages, concourse tunnels and ventilation adits. The chosen tunnelling system for Farringdon Station was sprayed concrete lining (SCL).

Bond Street Station Upgrade Execution

Bond Street Station serves an interchange between the Jubilee Line, the Central Line and the future Crossrail Station. New tunnels including access and lift shafts, construction adits, binocular cross passage tunnels, large concourse and connection chambers, underpass and over-bridge tunnels cutting through existing platform tunnels, and an inclined escalator tunnel were constructed in very close proximity to existing London Underground structures.

Site Supervision & CM, QA/QC

Since its inception, Dr. Sauer & Partners has provided construction management and inspection services to complement design and consulting work with experienced field supervision. The company’s group of field engineers and inspectors has helped to complete many successful tunnel projects around the world.

The services offered by Dr. Sauer & Partners range from periodic site visits by experienced individuals to document a project’s progress, to fully developed construction management services which deliver a complete project for the client. The company also provides inspection teams, which take over quality assurance and quality control, supporting the client, construction management or insurance companies.

The New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) is an observational method where support elements are determined based on the geology and the results from the geotechnical instrumentation program. Dr. Sauer & Partners is able to provide geologists and monitoring engineers, offering their services either individually or as part of a construction management or inspection team. Waterproofing inspectors familiar with the installation of flexible membrane systems are an additional specialty of the company. As part of its field work, Dr. Sauer & Partners has supported contractors less-experienced in tunnelling work with personnel at the superintendent and foreman level - enabling these companies to win and successfully complete tunnelling projects.

The company's inspection staff is drawn from a pool of individuals with practical experience gained during long-term project work with tunnelling contractors. They have a profound understanding of tunnelling methods and construction staging, as well as the importance of reporting and site documentation.

Over the past 30 years, Dr. Sauer & Partners has provided construction management services for many projects inlcuding the Schuerzebergtunnel in Oberrieden, Germany, and the Cameron Run Tunnels in Alexandria, Virginia. The company was also contracted for inspection services by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission at the Lehigh Tunnel No. 2 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Federal Highway Administration at the Cumberland Gap Tunnels in Cumberland, Tennessee, and the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority at the Russia Wharf Tunnel in Boston, Massachusetts, to name a few. Monitoring engineers are at work for Dr. Sauer & Partners in Santiago, Chile where large scale subway line extensions and the construction of new subway lines are underway. Dr. Sauer & Partners' inspectors were also responsible for the successful installation of the flexible membrane waterproofing systems at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Mid City E-Route and F-Route and Outer B-Route.
